Our secondary school curriculum team had a huge planning session today: tomorrow we begin a big drive on assessment as part of rolling out the IB MYP Next Chapter.
We were looking at our presentation, which included a slide quoting the eight big ideas of assessment from our school’s assessment policy. I mentioned that this slide is important, so it needs to be read out. One of my colleagues responded no, that, if it is important, the teachers should need to “do something”. So each group will come up with an example in practice that reflects each of these big ideas.
That response, “If it is important, they should do something”, will stay with me for a long time. I think it was spot on, and served as a timely reminder.
